We left Antigua at noon on what was a PERFECT sailing day. 20 knots East winds a pushing us towards Guadeloupe and we averaged 8 knots overall. The boat was going up and down along the beautiful swells and the occasional surf brought us up to even 11 knots speed over ground. Wow! We couldn’t have asked for better conditions.
As we sailed along we thought about all those places we didn’t have time to visit: Montserrat, St-Kitts, Nevis, Saba, St-Barth, etc. Maybe on the way back. Let’s keep in mind that we have to be back home in June.
Every time we’re on the ocean, its magnificence still amazes us. Thank God we did the rally last November. It definitely helped us gain experience and build our confidence. We are now better prepared and are able to plan our trips so they’re safer and comfortable.
A word about Antigua before focusing on our new surroundings: the island is beautiful and the people very friendly. Our only deception was the fuzzy water that made for poor snorkeling. However, we’re looking forward to coming back.
We finally arrived in Deshaies, Guadeloupe at 5:30 pm in time to enjoy the sunset (gorgeous because the bay is opened to the West) and after having a bit of a challenge setting the anchor, we enjoyed a nice evening in the bay and retired to bed, tired but content, at 9:00.
